Controlled Burn Design – Handcrafted Wood Burned Art by Kathy Steinfeld

For over six years, Kathy Steinfeld of Controlled Burn Design has been creating beautifully detailed wood burned pieces that bring warmth and character to the home. Each item is thoughtfully crafted by hand, making every creation truly one-of-a-kind. From cutting boards and serving spoons to seasonal décor and keepsake gifts, Kathy’s work celebrates the natural beauty of wood and the joy of meaningful moments. She especially enjoys designing custom pieces for weddings, new homes, and growing families—always with the goal of delivering happiness through her craft. As Kathy lovingly puts it, “I’m in the happiness business,” and every piece reflects that heartfelt mission.

Hi, my name is Melanie! I’m a stained glass artist based in Voorhees, NJ, and I’ve been creating with glass for about five years. What began as a beginner’s workshop gift quickly turned into a passion. The moment I scored and broke my first piece of glass, I was hooked. Inspired by the beauty of nature, blooming flowers, and my love for animals, I create luminous works of art that celebrate the way color and light can bring even the simplest designs to life. For me, stained glass is both meditation and magic, a chance to transform sharp, rigid pieces into glowing creations that radiate warmth and joy.

What started as a simple garage hobby has grown into a flourishing creative journey for Justin Gangemi and his wife, Susan. An experienced carpenter, Justin has always had a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of wood and woodworking.  Recently settling in Vineland on the farm where Susan grew up, Justin finally had the space to refine his craft and expand JMG Custom Creations into something truly special.

Unlike traditional woodworking, live edge creations preserve the tree’s natural character and imperfections, celebrating its knots, edges, cracks, and voids. Justin takes this a step further by combining live edge slabs with vibrant epoxy, transforming the natural imperfections into striking organic elements. Working alongside Susan, an architect, the two blend thoughtful design with skilled craftsmanship.  Together they transform raw slabs into unique décor & gifts, wine racks, charcuterie boards, custom furniture and more. Their collaboration results in pieces that balance artistry and function, enhancing the wood’s natural beauty without overwhelming it.

Justin and Susan are passionate about working closely with clients to create custom pieces tailored to individual needs. For them, it’s about more than just making objects, it’s about telling the story of each tree and crafting it into something meaningful, functional, and lasting.
